Daytona Beach

Do you remember those days of wanting to be in the ocean forever? Jumping each wave as it came ashore? Back when you were a kid, and ocean was just the coolest thing ever?

Yeah. It was like that. All over again.

Until the sunburn… and the sand everywhere—in the car, down your pants, in your shoes… the 100° weather and the salt in your hair. Good times.

Castlewood Canyon

In my effort to drag the girls out of the house every weekend, Karen was free this Sunday (having worked Saturday instead) and we we all took a trip to Castlewood Canyon. What we thought was a gentle 1.4 mile hike turned out to be just a bit over 3.4 miles both ways. This is easily twice the distance we did last week, and yes, Xana complained most of the way. BUT, she complained LESS… and she did the entire distance with us.

Bea, on the other hand, wanted to hike further than this pic shows, but we didn’t want to push our luck with Xana. We turned around from the falls after this photo and made our way back through the trails. It was certainly an interesting hike today, as we took the Homestead Trail to the Creek Bottom Trail, passing by ruins of old homesteads (thus the name). Lots of cool pics, plenty of vegetation and trails to choose from. Most was under cover from the sun, so while it was a pretty hot day of about 89 degrees, we were protected most of the way. But I think next week, we might start considering going up higher in elevation for our next hike!

Roxborough Park

I know it’s been a while, but this weekend was a lot of fun and I had to share another picture from our trip to Roxborough Park, Colorado. Xana complained most of the hike, but Beatrix was having a blast. Grammie came with us and enjoyed pointing out all the wild flowers to the girls.

Focusing priorities

Last year I made the conscious decision to volunteer to make a fundraiser video for my kids’ school. In general, I’m not able to contribute much during the year because of my schedule. This was an opportunity for me to actually volunteer to do something I’m good at and enjoy doing.

The result was pretty unexpected. Not only was it a smashing success, but had a blast working with the kids, the parents, and the PTSA committee. Everyone was friendly, accommodating and genuinely excited to help. I’ve received a lot of great feedback, compliments and encouragement for THIS year’s video.

In turn, I made sure to clear my off-hours schedule to allow myself the chance to match last year’s impact. Big shoes to fill, certainly, and I aim to achieve as much. Sacrificing a little sleep is a small price to pay for pure enjoyment I see on everyone’s face after watching it. These kids are special. The school is special.

I find it difficult to return to work after editing all night. There’s something so natural about these kids, dancing in slow motion, the music, the school… as if I’ve tapped into something bigger but haven’t quite grasped it. Until I do, please enjoy last year’s video. I’m nearly complete with this year’s, and I can’t wait to share it with you.
